Damien Chevallier is an ecologist and researcher at the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS). He is affiliated with the Laboratory of Biology of Aquatic Organisms and Ecosystems (BOREA) and also serves as Director of the Martinique Marine Research Station. After conducting research on migratory birds and elephants in West Africa for nearly six years, he went on to study the ecology of a wide range of species in Europe, including felids, suids, mustelids, raptors, and storks, across diverse environments.

For the past 15 years, he has specialised in sea turtle research in French Guiana and the French Antilles, using advanced tools such as biologging, satellite tracking, population dynamics analyses, physiological parameter analyses, and ecological modelling to investigate behavioural and physiological responses to environmental stress. Among his other flagship projects, he works to reduce bycatch of sea turtles in close collaboration with local fishers. He is also actively involved in training young people in Martinique, introducing them to scientific research and the conservation of marine ecosystems. His work reflects an interdisciplinary approach to the protection of both terrestrial and marine biodiversity and demonstrates a strong commitment to conservation that combines scientific research with local outreach.
