After earning a Master’s degree in Ecology, Biodiversity and Evolution, Jonathan pursued a PhD focused on improving our understanding of how climate change affects the embryonic development and reproduction of loggerhead sea turtles. From 2014 to 2017, he conducted his doctoral research at the Ecology, Systematics and Evolution laboratory of Paris-Saclay University, where he developed strong expertise in ecological modelling, statistics and computer programming.

He subsequently carried out fieldwork in French Polynesia and Costa Rica, studying marine turtles in their natural habitats. Jonathan then completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Ifremer on Réunion Island, where his research centred on the spatial ecology of loggerhead turtles, analysing the movements of more than 50 individuals released from the Kélonia Care Centre.

Today, his work aims to develop a “marine turtle forecast” to help anticipate turtle presence at sea and reduce potentially harmful interactions between marine turtles and ocean users.
