Mathieu Barret

Trained as a biologist, Mathieu Barret joined Kélonia in Réunion Island in 2009 and became Head of the Care Centre in 2013. To date, more than 400 marine turtles have been successfully treated and released back into the wild.
As co-leader of the Pathologies and Care Centre working groups within the Trans Oceans Marine Turtles Association (TOTM) and the French Marine Turtle Group (GTMF), he is actively involved in improving treatment techniques, developing innovative practices to optimize the care and rehabilitation of marine turtles, and sharing these methods with partners working in the field.
Committed to reducing bycatch, he leads partnerships with Réunion Island longline fishermen and serves on the IOSEA steering committee dedicated to this issue.
At the same time, he collaborates closely with partners across the south-west Indian Ocean, including in the Comoros, Mayotte, Madagascar, and South Africa.
