Shani Lacombe

Shani is an international agricultural development engineer (ISTOM) with a Master’s degree in Environmental Anthropology from the French National Museum of Natural History. She began her career in New Caledonia, where she studied fishing practices and emblematic species in the southern part of the territory, with a particular focus on marine turtles.

She then joined the VALOCEAN project at Agrocampus Ouest’s Fisheries Research Centre, which focused on strengthening and revitalising the fish retail sector. She went on to work for several consultancies specialising in marine and environmental issues, first at ACTeon Environnement and later at Bureau Veritas Living Resources, where she worked as a project manager.

After spending several years sailing around the Atlantic, she joined MERESCO, a consultancy specialising in fisheries and marine issues. She has been working there for more than three years as a fisheries project manager. Her work in mainland France and the French overseas territories covers a wide range of projects, including collecting data from commercial and recreational fishers, supporting the development of fisheries sectors, evaluating marine public policies, and contributing to marine governance.

She also supports the establishment and management of marine protected areas, taking an integrated approach that considers environmental and socio-economic issues alongside the different uses of the marine environment.
