Tania Gilbert
Research Officer – “Stress and Pain”
Tania Gilbert, originally from Réunion Island, is a veterinary medicine student in Gran Canaria, in the Canary Islands. Having always been passionate about nature and deeply committed to ecosystem conservation, she has a strong interest in wildlife medicine and rehabilitation.
In 2022, in collaboration with Kélonia, the marine turtle observatory of Réunion Island, she translated from Spanish into French a marine turtle rehabilitation manual originally written in Chile. That same year, she completed an internship at Kélonia’s rehabilitation centre, where she worked on updating care protocols.
Since 2023, she has been a volunteer with the ADS Biodiversidad association in the Canary Islands and with the Centre d’Étude et de Découverte des Tortues Marines (CEDTM) in Réunion Island. She has participated in field missions including wild population sampling campaigns, nesting and hatchling emergence monitoring, and the follow-up of a head-starting programme.
Tania has been a member of TOTM since 2023 and has attended the last three symposiums of the International Sea Turtle Society (ISTS). In order to further enrich her veterinary studies in support of sea turtle conservation, she decided to take a gap year to engage as a civic service volunteer focusing on pathologies and rehabilitation centres, working with TOTM in collaboration with Kélonia.
