Awareness

Disseminate existing knowledge and raise awareness of marine turtle conservation issues. Build connections between experts and audiences likely to interact with marine turtles, compile and share educational resources, and encourage the active involvement of these audiences in their protection, potentially through joint projects.

Many stakeholders are involved in marine turtle conservation, whether or not they interact directly with turtles. Sharing knowledge about turtle biology and raising awareness of conservation challenges are essential to engage these actors. As the famous quote by Jacques-Yves Cousteau reminds us, “People protect what they love.” This principle guides the projects carried out by this working group, targeting a wide range of audiences: students, teachers, socio-professional groups, sea and beach users, tourism operators, and others.

Numerous organizations study marine turtles and/or conduct awareness-raising activities in mainland France and in overseas territories. The educational projects and communication materials they produce are based on shared knowledge while also highlighting specific characteristics (species, geographic area, conservation issue, etc.), reflecting the diversity of the regions in which they operate.

  • Promote materials and initiatives developed across different territories at the national level

Objective 3: Bring stakeholders together around joint projects

  • Design and implement a cross-cutting, unifying awareness-raising program
