TRANS OCÉANS TORTUES MARINES

French stakeholders in marine turtle conservation around the world

Joins us

Marine turtles have existed for over 100 million years, yet six of the seven species are threatened with extinction. Unsustainable fishing, poaching, climate change, pollution, coastal degradation, and human disturbance…

The threats they face also affect entire marine ecosystems.

The global distribution of French territories represents a unique opportunity to implement conservation strategies at both national and international levels.

This is the mission of TOTM.

About the Association

Trans Océans Tortues Marines (TOTM) is a non-profit association under the French Law of 1901, bringing together stakeholders from French territories to conserve marine turtles worldwide. Founded in 2019, its status allows it to seek and manage funding necessary to carry out national initiatives that unite efforts for marine turtle conservation.

Our Missions

TOTM aims to promote, study, and conserve marine turtles and their habitats, specifically:

  • Implementing actions based on priorities identified by scientific and technical expert groups,
  • Supporting the execution of initiatives across international, inter-regional, national, or supranational scales. This support can take various forms, including scientific, technical, logistical, and financial assistance,
  • Creating and sharing educational materials and tools.

TOTM Initiatives: 9 Themes

Collaboration among all stakeholders in marine turtle conservation led to the development of the 'TOTM Initiatives' program, launched in 2021, which aims to address priorities organized around nine themes that reflect current challenges. These initiatives are designed to complement local Action Plans and international strategies, without replacing them.
